When the Va embly was debating Jefferson's draft of the VA Constitution, Jefferson rebuffed a motion by Patrick Henry to substitute Jesus Christ for Almighty Creator because it applied to all people of all religions. Shortly before the US Constitution was adopted, John Adams drafted the M Constitution which specifically authorized the State or local governments to sponsor a protestant religion. I believe a few other State did likewise. How were these differences between the various State Constitutions and the US Constitution reconciled?
