I have a cousin who has a strong fear of anyone dressed in an animal costume. At a zoo, a mascot at a ballgame, at Halloween. Even if the animal costume is a friendly looking one or something usually soft and cuddly such as a kitten. She seems to have no unusual fear of actual animals, and gets along well with even large dogs, unless they growl or show aggression, but even then her response is just like anyone else in the same situation. She is in her early adolescence. Besides what it is called, will she likely or possibly outgrow it?
